White Rooms Featured In The Book- A Passion For Interiors

Simon Pinniger's Aspen Home - Martha Stewart

In A Passion For Interiors Carolyne Roehm takes you on a tour through three of her best design projects: her Georgian home in Connecticut, her New York apartment, and a ski lodge in Aspen.

One of the best parts of the book is detailed photos behind the white ski lodge in Aspen.  The lodge is photographed in the winter, with white snow on the ground. In this post, I show several pictures of the house she designed in Aspen for her beau Simon Pinniger.  The Westbury in Aspen, is designed around a light-filled cozy home in the snowy hills of Colorado.

Her Weatherstone estate is also painted in white, and decorated around spectacular antiques.  Roehm's details all about her 1765 Georgian home which was designed to resemble a British estate. Her famous blue and white bedroom was re-decorated and her grand English bed is what she based her room around. The Georgian bed was reproduction from a London antiques shop.  In one of her guest rooms, a Chinese look is presented decorated in a remarkable yellow print with stripes and leopard spots accented with upscale black chinoiserie furniture.

"My first Christmas spent in the mountains was in the early 1970s, and the memory .of that chalet nestled in the towering Alps has informed the look and feel of my small apartment in Aspen. Bather than the Western or cabin look that is prevalent in Colorado, I opted for the cozy-style of the Swiss and Austrian Post hotels and chalets that I had visited when I was younger"

" The first European chalets I visited were always decorated with motifs of the mountains. Inspired by that memory, I used stag decorative elements, such as the candelabra and the flatware, WilliamYeoward stemware and deer-motif porcelain from Austria to dress a velveteen tablecloth for my Christmas Eve dinner, above: My first Christmas in Aspen was created using all natural decoration"

" I wanted to keep the space simple and fuss-free. I paneled the living room with barn siding and upholstered the study and the guest and master bedrooms with cotton fabrics that I found on sale. Simple 18th-century Swedish country antiques and 19th-century horn furniture from Austria and Scotland were mixed with traditional upholstered furniture. The walls were decorated with antique trophies and sporting paintings that I had collected"
